How to register and use the portal

Select the group that best describes you below to learn more about registering.

Landowners

In order to advertise your available units on Net Gain – Cambridgeshire & Peterborough you will need the following information:

Required

  • Shapefile (saved in the coordinate system WGS84), PDF or word document showing your site
  • Local Authority (list all)
  • Grid Reference, postcode and what3words of site
  • Habitats found on land
  • Documentation proving you are the landowner or have landowners permission to register for BNG
  • Size of site (ha)
  • Contact details

If available:

  • Number of units available for each habitat
  • BNG metric calculations
  • BNG assessment report
  • Management plan

Once you have created an account and uploaded the relevant information, a member of our team will verify your details and be in touch to confirm.

When your account is verified you will have access to the range of benefits the portal provides. These include:

  • Ability to see where your land sits on the Nature Recovery Network and use this map to help guide restoration decision, increasing the chances your land will be chosen for unit sales and maximising units produced
  • Your available units will be visible to interested developers in the county
  • Available units will be visible to registered local authorities, increasing the likelihood of your site being proposed for development projects
  • Units will be broken down into habitat type, making them easily searchable by developers
  • You will easily be able to see where an interested development is taking place, and their relevant biodiversity net gain documents

Developers

Required:

  • Shapefile (saved in the coordinate system WGS84), PDF or word document showing the development site red boundary
  • Planning Application Number
  • Local Authority development falls into (all that apply)
  • Grid Reference, postcode and what3words of the development
  • Habitat units you are wanting to purchase
  • Contact details
  • BNG metric calculations
  • BNG assessment report

Once you have created an account and uploaded the relevant information, a member our team will verify your details and be in touch to confirm. When your account is verified you will have access to the range of benefits the portal provides. These include:

  • Ability to easily identify an appropriate offsite location and the required habitat units within the correct local authority, both through a general search and using the interactive map with togglable layers
  • Ability to locate sites that are situated in strategic areas, increasing the chances your offsite allocation will be approved by the local authority
  • Ability to advertise additional onsite units for sale
  • Streamlining the offsite offsetting process by linking your offsite location with your planning application, making it easier for local authorities to monitor your application

Local Authorities

If you would like to register, please sign up here so we can review your request. By registering, you will have access to a range of benefits:

  • Easily see sites that are offering biodiversity net gain units in your local authority
  • By registering, you will have access to the interactive map which displays these available sites and their location within the Nature Recovery Network. This will make it easy to guide developers towards sites that will help deliver strategic goals
  • Easily access information on chosen offsite locations as they will be directly linked with the development project
  • All planning application information relating to biodiversity net gain for registered developments will be located in one easy-to-access place
  • Register local authority-owned land as BNG available, meaning private money can be used to fund the restoration of public site

Units displayed on the portal may be provided by third parties and are not verified by our team.  In order to verify unit validity before purchase please contact the landowner/developer through this portal. Biodiversity Net Gain surveys and unit calculations should always be completed by a qualified ecologist. Please see the website for the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) for details on how to find an appropriate consultant who can complete an assessment
